China’s presidential envoy, Song Ta, yesterday met with a close aide to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The head of the Chinese Communist Party’s international department, arrived in Pyongyang yesterday and held talks with Korean Workers’ Party Vice Chairman Choe Ryong Hae.

They are thought to have discussed the North’s nuclear and missile programs. Song’s meeting follows a US-China summit on 9th of this month.

The visit comes just days after US President Donald Trump’s tour of Asia, where he made North Korea one of his top priorities.

US President Donald Trump earlier expressed his hope on Twitter that China will use its influence on North Korea, calling the visit a big move. The outcome of the trip may influence a key decision Trump is about to make concerning whether to name North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.
