As many as 40 persons were killed and 10 injured when a gold mine in Kohistan district of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province collapsed.
The district administration said that the villagers had dug a 200-feet deep shaft along the riverbed to search for gold and when the miners were inside, a wall collapsed. Provincial governor’s spokesman said the villagers were not professional miners. He said that illegal armed men are often involved in illegal digging of natural treasures including gold, coal and other minerals.
