
Senegal’s government says, at least 22 people were killed and 87 injured in a fire while attending a Muslim spiritual retreat in the eastern part of the country. 20 of the injured are in a serious state.
Government spokesman Seydou Gueye said today that several others were wounded in the fire yesterday in Medina Gounass village. President Macky Sall offered condolences to victims’ families.
Thousands of Muslim men from Senegal, Guinea and other West African countries meet annually in Medina Gounass for the spiritual retreat.
