
The Argentine navy has said, one of its submarine is missing off the country’s south coast with a crew of 44 on board.
Navy spokesman, Enrique Balbi said at a news conference that they are searching the South Atlantic for submarine that has not made contact for 48 hours. He said it had launched an air and sea search on Thursday, involving a destroyer and two corvettes.
Spokesman said the navy has not been able to find, or have visual or radar communication with the submarine. Balbi also said that the vessel with its 44 crew was last located more than 400 kilometers off the coast of Patagonia.
The TR-1700 class diesel electric submarine had been returning from a routine mission to Ushuaia near the southernmost tip of South America, to its base at Mar del Plata, around 400 kilometers south of Buenos Aires.
