British Airways says it is aiming to run a “near normal schedule” at Gatwick airport and the “majority of services” from Heathrow in London today a day after all flights were cancelled due a major IT system failure. The airline initially cancelled only flights before 1800 local time yesterday but later confirmed all its flights will remain grounded at both airports throughout the day.
British Airways CEO Alex Cruz said in a video posted on Twitter, that the root cause was a power supply issue and there is no evidence of any cyberattack. He said, the IT teams are working tirelessly to fix the problems.
Heathrow has advised passengers to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport. All affected passengers will be offered the option of rescheduling or a refund.
