In Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union has won the regional elections in the most populous state. The victory for Merkel’s party will now give her a boost as she seeks a fourth term in general election in September. The Social Democrats conceded defeat in yesterday’s vote in North Rhine-Westphalia.
