A US-backed alliance of Syrian fighters has said, it has taken full control of Raqqa. This brings the end of three years rule of the Islamic State terror group in the city. Syrian Democratic Forces spokesman Talal Sello said the fighting was over after a four-month assault.
He said, clearing operations are now underway to uncover any terror sleeper cells and remove landmines. A US military spokesman said, 90 per cent of the city had been cleared.
The Islamic State had made Raqqa the headquarters of its self-styled caliphate in early 2014.
