Raipur, May 27
India’s first AI-focused Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is set to be established in Naya Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. This exclusive zone will be dedicated to the development and deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer data technologies. It will house state-of-the-art computer systems and servers capable of running AI systems with cognitive capabilities. Major global companies will operate their digital services from this zone. The government has granted tax and regulatory exemptions to facilitate rapid technological advancement. For the first time in India, an entire SEZ is being created with AI as its sole focus—positioning Naya Raipur as the country’s next digital and technological hub. This project is seen as a major step toward making India a global technology leader.
The AI-based RackBank Data Center SEZ will be developed in Naya Raipur, entirely centered around computers, the internet, and artificial intelligence. RackBank Data Centers Pvt. Ltd. is developing this project with an investment of around ₹1,000 crore.
Spread over approximately 6 acres, the SEZ will feature a 150,000 sq. ft. data center equipped with modern technology. There are plans to build four high-density data centers in the future with a total capacity of 80 megawatts, enough to support the digital infrastructure of multiple states. This initiative will place Chhattisgarh firmly on India’s technological map.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai hailed this as a “new beginning for New Chhattisgarh,” stating that this investment will create employment opportunities for the youth and strengthen the state’s technological identity. He added that the project will significantly contribute to the Digital India and Make in India missions.
RackBank CEO Shri Narendra Sen said the data center will create positions for IT engineers, data specialists, cybersecurity officers, network managers, and more. The company will also collaborate with ITIs, engineering, and polytechnic institutions across Chhattisgarh to run training programs, helping students become industry-ready.
Significantly, AI today goes beyond computers—it influences language, thought, education, healthcare, and even agriculture. The upcoming data center in Raipur will become a hub for these services, hosting AI operations of global tech giants like Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta. For the first time, India will not just be a consumer of these services, but a self-reliant producer and host.
What sets this project apart is its inclusive impact. Its benefits won’t be limited to big cities or the tech elite—it will reach rural areas and small towns. Students from districts like Kanker, Sukma, Bilaspur, or Dantewada can now stay in Raipur and work with global companies—no need to go to Bengaluru or abroad.
The data center will also be built according to green building certification standards, using solar power, water conservation systems, and energy-efficient equipment.
