IIT Bhilai gears up for 3rd and 4th Convocation

Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai is all set to host 3rd and 4th Convocation on 26 October 2024 in Nalanda Hall, in its campus. The Hon’ble President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu, will be Chief Guest at the occasion and will deliver the Convocation Address. Shri Ramen Deka, Hon’ble Governor of Chhattisgarh and Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh will be the Guests of Honour. This will be the Hon’ble President’s first visit to the institute as well as to Bhilai, and as such is an important landmark for not just the institute but the state of Chhattisgarh as well.
In this convocation, 396 students who graduated in 2023 and 2024 will be conferred degrees. The graduating students of batch 2023 include 13 PhD, 11 MSc, 27 MTech, 13 BTech (Honours), and 123 BTech graduates. For the graduating batch of 2024, there are 8 PhD, 20 MSc, 19 MTech, 12 BTech (Honours), and 150 BTech graduates. The Institute Gold Medal will be awarded to the BTech student with the highest CGPA in their batch, while the Director’s Gold Medals will be awarded to BTech and MTech students based on their overall performance in both academic and extra-curricular domains. The best female student with overall academic excellence in BTech, BTech(Honours) and MSc will be awarded the Director’s Gold Medal for Outstanding Female Student. Students who secured the highest CGPA in different branches and programmes will be presented the Senate Awards.
In line with the Government of India’s initiative, Digital India, IIT Bhilai also awards digital degree certificates to its students, as part of its commitment towards a sustainable and environmentally-friendly operation. Digital degree certificate is the first of its kind to be implemented in an academic institution in India. The degree certificate digitally signed by signatories will be presented to the graduands in a pen-drive on the day of convocation.
IIT Bhilai began its journey on 7 August 2016 with its inauguration by Shri Prakash Javedakar, the then Hon’ble Minister for Human Resource Development, Government of India, and Shri Raman Singh, the then Chief Minister, Government of Chhattisgarh. The foundation stone of this institute was laid by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 14 June 2018. The state-of-the-art permanent campus of the institute was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister on 20 February 2024. This convocation will be the first to be held in the permanent campus of the IIT Bhilai. With two days to the convocation IIT Bhilai is all ready to welcome the Hon’ble President and Guests of Honour leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the event adds one more feather to its cap.
