Exam Results in Rural Schools of Durg District Affected by Imbalance in Teacher Postings Rationalization Will Improve the Education System

In a report submitted to the Department of Education, the District Education Officer (DEO) of Durg has clearly highlighted a serious imbalance in teacher postings. According to the report, there is a severe shortage of teachers in government high schools in rural areas, while urban schools have an excess of teaching staff, adversely affecting the overall educational system. As a result, exam results in rural schools have fallen below average. The DEO has emphasized that rationalizing teacher postings is essential to improve the quality of education. Posting teachers in rural schools according to their actual needs will lead to better learning outcomes and improved exam results.

The DEO’s report cites specific cases:

In Government High School Murmuda, under Dhamdha block, only 3 lecturers are posted against 6 sanctioned positions, even though 63 students are enrolled in Class 10. Due to the teacher shortage, the annual exam pass rate was only 47.62%.

Similarly, in Government High School Silitara and Government High School Birejhar, not a single lecturer is posted despite each having 6 sanctioned positions. These schools have enrollments of 81 and 63 students respectively, but recorded poor pass rates of 36.59% and 35.00%.

In stark contrast, urban schools have more teachers than required.

For example, Government Upper Primary School Camp-1, Millai has 17 teachers working against 7 sanctioned positions for 225 students, which is 10 excess teachers.

Similarly, Nehru Government Primary School, Durg has 11 teachers for 113 students, while only 4 positions are sanctioned, meaning 7 teachers are surplus.

The District Education Officer of Durg has called for urgent rationalization and deployment of teachers in rural schools to ensure improvement in academic results and to provide students with quality education.
