Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy has sought exemption from the entrance test NEET for medical admission in the state. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has urged for taking urgent measures to get President’s approval for the two state Bills seeking exemption from the test.

He has said medical admissions are being made in the state in a fair and transparent system now. He has expressed apprehensions that the new set of regulations made for PG Admissions would affect Government doctors including those serving in rural areas.

The Chief Minister has further said, in the case of under graduate medical admissions, the NEET-based system would lead 98 % of the students who appear in the State Board examinations to face tremendous disadvantage as they lack the resources to enroll in coaching institutions.
