Deputy CM Arun Sao Reviews Urban Local Bodies’ Performance

Raipur, February 28
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Urban Administration & Development, Shri Arun Sao, conducted a review meeting today with senior departmental officials to assess the performance of urban local bodies across Chhattisgarh. The meeting, held in the committee room of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, included virtual participation from Municipal Commissioners, Chief Municipal Officers of Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats. Urban Administration Department Secretary Dr. Basavaraju S. and Director Shri R. Ekka were also present in the meeting.
Emphasis on Strong Preparation for Swachh Survekshan-2024
Shri Arun Sao directed all urban bodies to ensure robust preparations for securing high rankings in the Swachh Survekshan-2024, conducted by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India.
The survey teams will begin their evaluation in the first week of March for Swachh Survekshan-2024, ODF (Open Defecation Free) certification, and GFC (Garbage-Free City) certification.
He outlined 10 key parameters, 54 major indicators, and 166 sub-indicators that will be assessed during the survey.
He emphasized that any negligence in meeting these standards would not be tolerated.
Shri Sao also reviewed the preparations and arrangements made by urban bodies so far.
Ensuring Visible Cleanliness in Urban Areas
To maintain visible cleanliness, he directed urban bodies to:
Ensure regular cleaning in public and commercial areas
Provide twin bins for waste segregation
Achieve 100% solid waste collection and transportation
Eliminate CTUs (Community Toilets Units), black spots, and garbage vulnerable points (GVPs)
Keep back lanes, drains, and water bodies clean
He announced that future review meetings would assess Swachh Survekshan-2024 results for each urban body, and if performance and rankings decline, state-level action will be taken.
Focus on Pending Electricity Dues & City Development Plans
Shri Sao instructed urban bodies to clear pending electricity dues without delay.
He stressed the need to complete tasks related to the 15th Finance Commission within the set timeframe.
All urban local bodies were directed to prepare and submit their City Development Plans (CDP) to the Directorate within 15 days, following departmental guidelines.
The review meeting was also attended by SUDA (State Urban Development Agency) CEO Shri Shashank Pandey and Additional Director of the Urban Administration Department Shri Pulak Bhattacharya.
