Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Nov 19 performed Bhoomi Pujan of the first well-equipped tennis academy of Central India in the capital Raipur through video conferencing on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi and gave a big gift to sportspersons and sports lovers.

Tennis Sports Academy will be constructed on 4 acres of land adjoining the Cultural Building of Agricultural University Raipur. For its construction, the State Government’s Sports and Youth Welfare Department has issued a work order giving administrative approval of Rs 17 crore 75 lakh. A time frame of 15 months has been set for the construction of the academy.
Addressing the Bhoomi pujan ceremony, the Chief Minister said that with the formation of Tennis Academy, international level tennis competitions can be organized in the capital Raipur. Chhattisgarh will get a new identity in the tennis world through this academy. Along with this, the players of Chhattisgarh will get a better opportunity to improve their talent. Public Works Minister Mr. Tamradhwaj Sahu, Urban Administration Minister Dr. Shiv Kumar Dahriya, Culture Minister Mr. Amarjeet Bhagat, Sports Minister Mr. Umesh Patel and Olympic Association General Secretary Mr. Gurucharan Singh Hora also addressed the program and congratulated the sports lovers for Tennis Academy. In the Bhoomipujan ceremony, Sports Secretary Shri Anivash Champawat gave detailed information about Tennis Academy. Director of Sports Mrs. Shweta Sinha expressed gratitude on the occasion. Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Subrata Sahu, Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi were also present on the occasion.
The tennis sports academy to be constructed in the Labhandi area of ​​the capital Raipur will have an administrator building, hostel building and a main tennis court along with five practice tennis courts. The construction of tennis courts will be of international standard. UltraCushion 8 layer synthetic surface will be used in the court. The tennis stadium will be built over an area of 6038 square meters. The capacity of the main tennis court will be 3 thousand and the VVIP gallery under the main building will have a capacity of 500 spectators. The main tennis court and practice courts will have all facilities including flood lights for day-night matches. For this, 315 kV power substation and 165 kV capacity DG set for emergency electric current will be installed.

The tennis academy will be well equipped with air conditioning. In the ground floor of Admin Building a reception, two changing rooms, two halls, parking area and gym while on the first floor dining area, waiting area and on the second floor V.I.P lodge will be built. In the ground floor of Hostel Building a reception & waiting room, superintendent room, office, VIP room and parking will be constructed while a carrom room, table tennis room, kitchen, dining will be built on the first floor. On the second floor, 17 rooms & house keeping and on the third floor 17 rooms & house keeping will be constructed. Along with this, an international tennis court (synthetic court) and 5 practice courts (synthetic court) will be built.
