Sub Inspector martyred in encounter, constable injured

A Sub Inspector was killed and a jawan was injured in an encounter with ultras in insurgency-hit Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said today.

As per information received, the Sub Inspector killed in the encounter has been identified as Yugal Kishore Verma while the injured constable has been identified as Krish Sahu. A team of district police undertaking anti-naxal exercise in forest falling in limits of Gatapar police station during afternoon hour was targeted by insurgents. A group of armed ultras opened indiscriminate firing on them when security personnel reached forest close to village Bhave following which a retaliatory action was launched. Unable to withstand the retaliatory firing from police side, ultras escaped to dense forest.

After being informed about the encounter, additional force was dispatched to the spot. The body of martyred Sub Inspector has been evacuated from the forest and the injured constable has also be rushed to nearby hospital.
