Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh today said that society should learn from Bastar forest-dwellers as to how to treat and respect daughters. The so-called backward society treats daughters as ‘Shakti Devi incarnate’. The sex ratio between boys and girls is one of the best in Bastar Division in the entire nation. Dr. Raman Singh said foeticide is equal to murder. The quantum of punishment should be equal to murder for this crime also. Chief Minister was addressing ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padao – felicitation ceremony of meritorious students’ programme at Rajnandgaon. He blessed the students a bright and prosperous future. The students who got more that 85 per cent in the 10th and 12th Board examinations were presented with commendation certificates and school bag.
Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh said that Constitution conferred equal rights upon men and women. The society is now well prepared to allot equal rights to both boys and girls. As far as sex ratio is connected Chhattisgarh is among the top three best performing States in the entire State. There are 997 girls to 1,000 boys. Girls are dominating in all the fields including education. This programme will help create awareness regarding equal rights in the society. Earlier girls used to hesitate going to school as there were no adequate facilities.
Dr. Raman Singh said that toilets had been built in all the schools in the State. The authorities are providing sanitary napkins in all schools and colleges. Free education is being provided to girls till colleges. Cycles are being provided free of cost to girls in schools. The presence of girls in schools had increased manifold. Chief Minister revealed that when girls who were selected for D.S.P. and Dy.Collectors’ posts were queried as to who are willing to get postings in Left-Wing Extremism affected regions all of them agreed to be posted there. This shows the self-confidence of girls.
Chief Minister while wishing the meritorious students added that they should pass in all the tests in life also. MP Mr. Abhishek Singh, Chhattisgarh Social Welfare Board Chairperson Mrs. Shoba Sharma, Rajanandgaon Mayor Mr. Madhusudhan Yadav, prominent journalist Mr. Shiv Dube also spoke. MLA Mrs. Sorojini Banjare, State Urdu Academy Chairman Mr Akram Kureshi, former Speaker of Assembly Mr. Dharamlal Kaushik, Social Welfare Board former Chairpesron Mrs. Vibharao, State Women’s Commission member Dr. Rekha Mesram, former MLA Mr. Komal Janghel, several prominent citizens, students and many others were also present.
