As many as 10 Maoists were gunned down by security forces in an encounter took place in insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
Director General of Police DM Awasthi said that a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was on an anti-Naxal operation in Maad area after receiving an intelligence input about the presence of Maoists in that area.
The encounter took place near Taalibod village. After the encounter, the bodies of 10 Uniformed Maoists along with 11 weapons have been recovered from the spot.
After the encounter the reinforcement has been sent to the area.
