9th PGP and 7th FPM Batches of IIM Raipur inaugurated

Raipur, 22 June 2018

Orientation programme for 9th Batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management and 7th Batch of Fellow Programme in Management was inaugurated today, in presence of Mr. Aman Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Housing and Environment, Department of Information Technology and NRDA Chairman.

At the onset, Prof. Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIM Raipur welcomed the PGP 2018-20 batch, and motivated students to follow their passion and shape their ideas accordingly. In his address to the programme as Chief Guest of event, Shri Aman Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary to Honourable Chief Minister and Chairman – NRDA informed the new batch about the development journey of Chhattisgarh. In his address, he talked in detail about the major policies undertaken by Chhatttisgarh Government. He said that Right to Skill Development is one of the most important initiatives of state government which is focused on enhancing the employability of manpower available in the state, so that the youth of state can become financially self-dependent and also contribute to the economy of state in a better way.

The Student Profile of the PGP batch was presented by Dr. S K Mitra, Chairman Admissions. He said that the batch profile of IIM Raipur showed a significant improvement by having about 25 percent female students. This was followed by an address by Prof. Sumit Gupta, the FPM chairperson who welcomed the 7th batch of FPM students. Describing the profession of teaching, he called upon the new batch of the students to become a role model for society besides exceling in research work. Later,the first half of the session was concluded by anIntroduction to the PGP program and the faculty by Dr. PRS Sarma, Chairman PGP.

The second half began with an interaction with Prof. Satyasiba Das, Chairman of Placement and Corporate Relations and also Chairman of International Relations. He talked about the giant strides IIM Raipur has made in the Corporate World in the last few years. He also explained the importance of exchange program as in today’s competitive world, getting exposure helps in the overall growth of an individual. Getting exposed to different pedagogies of management education helps in attaining a global perspective which will be beneficial in the long run. This was followed by a brief session with Prof. Samar Singh, Chairman – Anti Ragging Committee who talked about the zero-tolerance policy with regards to ragging of IIM Raipur. Tomorrow’s schedule includes panel discussions to give the flavour of corporate life to the new batch. Eminent personalities from various industries have been invited for the program.
