Pt RSU research scholar Dr Mamta Tripathi discovers drug-like molecule with potency of fighting Cancer

Raipur, July 19

A 28-year-old research scholar from Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur has discovered a drug-like molecule having potency of fighting deadly disease ‘Cancer’.

Initially, we cannot term the molecule as drug, instead it is drug-like molecule, said the research scholar from Pt Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur Dr Mamta Tripathi.

She further informed that the Drug-like molecule Hydroxamic acid-Metal complexes has been developed in such a way that it can kill large number of cancerous cells in very minute concentration.

“Under the guidance of my guide Professor Rama Pandey (retired Pt RSU professor, who is expert in drug design), we have successfully carried out in-vitro study (studies carried out in laboratory) and started preparation to undertake in-vivo study which means study in small organism like mice. In next step, some bigger organism will be selected for the study and eventually the clinical research work will be carried out on humans,” stated Dr Mamta while speaking to Asian News Service.

Dr Mamta has carried out her research in association with Durga Femto Technologies and Research Laboratory in Bangalore.

Speaking about the research, Dr Mamta highlighted that in 2001, the research scholars from RSU in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai started studies in 19 molecules and gets remarkable results in two cancer cell lines including breast cancer cell line and skin cancer cell line. The studies which were carried out in in-vitro (studies carried out in laboratory) as well as in-vivo (study in mice) were paused later due to some reasons.

In 2013, Pt. RSU Professor Rama Pandey has assigned Dr Mamta along with her group to start work on this topic.
