Top cops instructed to assist elders loitering around at railway stations, bus-stands
Raipur, 01 October 2018
Police officials will elicit information from the senior citizens who are begging on the road-sides, railway stations and bus stands and try to contact their family members. On the orders of the Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh the Police Headquarters had issued instructions to all the top police brass of the districts. Home Minister Mr. Ramsevak Paikra had called upon the top cops to implement the orders immediately. It may be mentioned here that Helpline had been set-up at the Police Headquarter for elder citizens. On an average eight phone calls are received and they are heard sympathetically. A nodal officer had been appointed in all the districts to assist the senior citizens.
Director General of Police Mr. A .N. Upadhyaya in a circular to the senior cops in the districts mentioned that service to elders is service to God. He called upon the police officials to meet older citizens and solve their problems. The police is taking the assistance of voluntary organization ‘ Help-Age India’. The efforts are being made to assist the senior citizens who are living alone and are helpless. Senior Citizens’ Helpline should be established in all the district police stations. The top cops should meet elder citizens every 15 days and elicit their problems and try to solve them. The cops should prepare a list of long-pending cases in the courts and assist the elders in resolving at the earliest. The top cops can visit the houses of senior citizens and take their statements.
