Canadian national John Szlazak, who had gone missing in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-affected Sukma district, has returned safely to the district headquarters. As per information received, he is now in the safe custody of Bastar police and the details about his reported detainment by the maoists will be out only after the questioning by police gets completed.
Anti-naxal operations DGP D. M. Awasthi told that John, who came to Sukma riding on a bicycle, had mistakenly entered the sensitive area in the insurgency-affected district. He was last traced on Monday near Singanmadgu near Odisha border, after which a massive search operation was launched by the police. Notably, External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had also talked to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressing her concern over the foreigner’s disappearance.
