
Mahasamund, June 28
A joint team of local police and crime branch busted a gang indulged in printing and circulation of Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district, police said today.
Following a tip-off about the illegal activity, the joint squad of crime branch and Basna police swung into action and arrested seven persons along with FICN of over Rs 7 lakh, said Mahasamund Superintendent of police (SP) Santosh Singh.
SP further informed that the arrested were identified as Gautam, Kamal Bariha, Chamru Patel, Krishna Kumar, Manmohan Das, Rupanand and Surendra Kumar Chouhan. They were undertaking the illicit act of printing fake currency with printing machine at the house of Kamal. From their possession, police have seized counterfeits of around Rs 7.30 lakh (in denomination of 2000, 500 and 100), printing machine, a four-wheeler and mobile handsets.
“The arrested were disposing fake currency in crowded market, liquor shops, petrol pumps and other. Based on inputs about disposal of counterfeits from these areas on frequent basis, police have launched an extensive operation in this connection leading to arrested to these seven persons who were indulged in the nefarious business of fake currency,” said SP Santosh Singh.
He further added that police have registered a case in this regard and started investigation.
