While Congress is busy in celebrating its historic landslide victory in Chhattisgarh against incumbent BJP, Lakheshwar Baghel emerged as one of the most popular tribal face of the party in this election with victory margin of over 33000 votes.
Lakheshwar Baghel, who contested in ST reserved Bastar assembly segment, registered thumping victory against Dr Subhau Kashyap with a massive margin of 33471 votes. There are a total of 153714 voters in the seat, which includes 75174 male voters and 78537 female voters.
Despite the party was in opposition for around 15 years, Lakheshwar Baghel emerged as one of the most popular tribal leader in Bastar-which usually remain in news for naxal incidents and police encounter. Lakheshwar Baghel-who tasted victory in 2013 assembly election against Dr Subhau Kashyap with margin of 19168 votes, has gained massive popularity and won the same seat against same contestant with margin of 33471 votes.
In the 2018 Chhattisgarh elections, Bastar recorded a voter turnout of 83.64%. In 2013 the turnout was 84.28%, and in 2008 it was 74.79%.
