Under the Gramodyog Department’s scheme of supplying clothes for official purposes, clothes worth nearly Rs 158 crore have been supplied to various departments of State Government in previous fiscal year. This schemes has created regular employment for nearly 50 thousand weavers. Total Rs 45 crore 29 lakh has been distributed to weavers as wages. Department officials informed today that under this scheme, Handicraft Development and Marketing Union has been made nodal agency for supplying the quantity of fabric required by various departments of state government including Tribal Caste and Scheduled Caste Development, School Education, Health and Family Welfare, Public Health Engineering, PWD, and Agriculture. The Union coordinates with weavers cooperative societies to ensure production and supply of clothes, mostly including bed-sheets, carpets, curtains, gauge, bandage, mosquito-net etc.
