Chhattisgarh High Court has ordered state government to grant books and uniform instead of cash to the Below Poverty Line, BPL, students studying in private schools under Right to education.
Yesterday, the High Court ordered the Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh Government to start providing free uniforms, textbooks, and stationery to BPL children studying in private schools from the present session. The comprising divisional bench of Chief Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice Sharad Kumar Gupta was hearing a PIL.
The PIL said, the state government is granting only 650 rupees per year in lieu of providing free book, uniform, and other stationary items. It said, this amount given by the government is not sufficient for BPL student studying in private schools to buy books and uniform.
