Chhattisgarh has been ranked fourth in Good Governance Index (GGI) by the Centre. The state scored 5.05 points on several parameters and claimed fourth position among the bigger states. The Index was launched by the ministry of Personnel to access the state of governance in the country on the occasion of Good Governance Day.
The index takes into consideration ten sectors agriculture and allied sectors, commerce and industries human resources development, public health, economic governance, public infrastructure and utilities, social welfare and development, judicial and public security, environment and citizen-centric governance. These sectors were further measured on a total of 50 indicators.
It is to be mentioned that development works in Chhattisgarh have been appreciated at national level time and again. Recently, the state has been given 22 national awards by the Centre for exemplary work in MNREGA, Livelihood Mission, Awaas Yojana and PMGSY. Chhattisgarh has been moving ahead in a fast pace into the category of developed states.
The objective of the good governance index was to provide quantifiable data to compare the state of governance in all states and UTs, enable them to formulate and implement suitable strategies for improving governance and shift to result oriented approaches and administration.
