A joint team of security personnel on Monday gunned down an ultra in an encounter took place in insurgency-hit Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
The encounter took place in forest close to village Kamteda falling in limits of Koyalibeda police station, added police.
According to police, following a tip-off about presence of ultras in the area, a joint squad of Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Group (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF) swung into action. When security personnel reached forest close to village Kamteda, insurgents opened indiscriminate firing prompting troopers to launch retaliatory action. Unable to withstand retaliatory action, naxals fled the spot.
During the course of search at the spot of encounter, jawans recovered body of a rebel along with SLR and three other firearms, police said, elaborating that efforts were ongoing to identify slain naxal.
