Amity University Chhattisgarh today celebrated World Press Freedom Day at university campus today. The initiative was taken by Amity School of Communication. The inaugural speech was delivered by Profesor Dr Trishu Sharma, Dean of Faculties, Amity School of Communication. Among other dignitaries present were Dean Academics Prof Dr. Sumita Dave, Deputy Registrar B.P Paitnaik, Chief Warden Samved Singh and Deputy Director Admission Dr. B.K Singh.
In his speech, Professor Trishu Sharma stressed on the increasing attack on freedom of speech and expression and particularly on press across the world. He cited several examples regarding this. Recalling the activities of the renowned journalists across the world, he wanted to instill the sense of press freedom and its proper uses among the students.
Another faculty of the department, Dr. Somak Sen cited the example of Colombia where Guillermo Cano Isaza, the renowned journalist was assassinated as he exposed the drug mafias through his pen. The international award on Freedom of Press is named after Isaza later. After that, a short film namely Freedom of Press was shown to the present audience.
Both Deputy Registrar and Dean Academics also delivered their views on press freedom. The valedictory session was conducted by B N Panda, faculty Amity School of Communication.
