Amid special assembly session called to table second supplementary budget in Chhattisgarh, Congress accompanied by large number of farmers on Friday attempted to gherao the state assembly in support of their several demands including immediate release of bonus to farmers.
However, Congress bid to gherao Chhattisgarh Assembly was foiled by heavy posse of security personnel deployed at ‘Mandi Gate’ in limits of Pandri police station. Meanwhile, Congress workers also had exchange of heated words with security personnel after being prevented to march ahead.
“As many as 444 Congress persons, including Chhattisgarh incharge of All India Congress Committee PL Punia, AICC Secretary Kamleshwar Patel, Arun Uraon, CGPCC chief Bhupesh Baghel and other senior party leaders were arrested while heading towards the state assembly,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Vijay Agrawal.
The arreted Congress workers were later released unconditionallly, addded ASP Agrawal.
According to ASP, in order to avert any untoward incident and confrontation with Congress workers, 800 security personnel led by senior police officials were deployed to tactfully handled the turnout.
