Chhattisgarh Tops the Nation in Forest and Tree Cover Growth: Indian Forest Survey Report

According to the Indian Forest Survey Report (ISFR) 2023, Chhattisgarh has secured the first position in the country in terms of combined forest and tree cover growth. The Indian Forest Survey Report states that Chhattisgarh’s total forest cover area is 55,812 square kilometers.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that this significant achievement is the result of the continuous conservation and dedicated efforts of the Forest and Climate Change Department.

It also reflects the awareness of the people of the state and their responsibility towards the environment, who are contributing to making Chhattisgarh green and prosperous.
This achievement is a result of the participation of local communities and the successful implementation of conservation programs.

It is noteworthy that compared to 2021, the forest and tree cover in the country has increased by 1445 sq km, including an increase of 156 sq km in forest cover and 1289 sq km in tree cover. The top four states showing the maximum increase in forest and tree cover are Chhattisgarh (684 sq km), Uttar Pradesh (559 sq km), Odisha (559 sq km), and Rajasthan (394 sq km).
