Chhattisgarh Assembly is an Exemplary Model of Democratic Traditions: Chief Minister Sai
Raipur, March 24
On the occasion of the silver jubilee celebration of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai, while warmly welcoming the President of India, Mrs. Droupadi Murmu, on behalf of the people of the state, expressed that it is a matter of great pride for all of us that as the Chhattisgarh Assembly celebrates its glorious 25 years, the First Citizen of the country is present among us. He mentioned that the silver jubilee of Chhattisgarh, formed in the year 2000 under the leadership of Bharat Ratna, the late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, coincides with the centenary year of his birth, which we are celebrating as “Atal Nirman Year.”
Chief Minister Mr. Sai emphasized that the 25-year journey of our Assembly is a symbol of the strong traditions of democracy. The Indian democracy, which has been in existence since the Vedic period, has been further strengthened by Chhattisgarh through its actions. Serious discussions on public welfare topics, powerful debates, and decisions made in a healthy environment in the House enrich our parliamentary culture.
He further added that Chhattisgarh Assembly has not only focused on legislative work but has also prioritized the development of leadership among its representatives. Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai quoted our honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, who says that the process of learning should be continuous. The Public Leadership Program recently held at IIM Raipur for Assembly members is an example of this, where training was provided on the important aspects of leadership and administration. He reaffirmed that we are all committed to building a developed India and a developed Chhattisgarh.
Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, welcoming President Mrs. Droupadi Murmu, stated that it is an honor for the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly that for the third time, the President of India has addressed the House. Earlier, the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Mrs. Pratibha Patil had also addressed the Assembly. He described the simple, struggle-filled, and inspirational life of President Mrs. Murmu as a source of inspiration for the women, representatives, and youth of the country. He described the 25-year journey of the Chhattisgarh Assembly as a journey to strengthen democratic values. He mentioned that the tradition of ‘self-discipline’ had been established in the House, where members adhered to the rules they themselves made, setting an example for the entire country.
Dr. Singh further explained that the Chhattisgarh Assembly has gained national and international recognition in the field of parliamentary activities. He pointed out that in 2011, the Assembly passed the Public Service Guarantee Act, and in 2012, the Food Security Act, both of which are symbols of Antyodaya (upliftment of the poorest) and inclusive development. Dr. Raman Singh also mentioned that the Assembly will soon be relocating to its new building in Naya Raipur. He described the presence of the President as an indelible chapter in the Assembly’s memories. He also added that the Assembly regularly awards and honors outstanding legislators and journalists, strengthening democratic consciousness.
Leader of Opposition, Dr. Charandas Mahant, welcomed President Mrs. Droupadi Murmu from the bottom of his heart and described her as a symbol of struggle, simplicity, and service. He stated that President Murmu’s life is an inspiration for the entire country. He expressed gratitude for her presence and remarked that all of us will work with unity and inspiration from her words for the development of Chhattisgarh.
On this occasion, Governor Mr. Ramen Deka launched the “Assembly Member Reference Book” and presented the first copy of the book to President Mrs. Droupadi Murmu.
