Raipur, August 23

This time, Raipur’s Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium is set to be drenched in the rich hues of Chhattisgarh’s folk traditions. On the occasion of the Teeja-Pora festival, the auditorium premises are adorned with Nandiya-Bailla (bullock figurines), traditional toys, colorful bandanwars (door hangings), and Chhattisgarhi decorations, creating a mesmerizing ambiance.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Laxmi Rajwade, preparations for this grand event—being held as part of Chhattisgarh’s Silver Jubilee celebrations on August 24—are nearly complete. Around 3,000 women will participate in the Teeja-Pora festival, including beneficiaries of the Mahtari Vandana Yojana, women from self-help groups, and Mitanins (community health workers).

The occasion will include rituals and worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, Nandiya-Bailla, and agricultural tools. Women will take part in traditional games and competitions such as Phugdi, Jalebi Race, Lemon-Spoon Race, and Tug-of-War. Mehndi (henna), bangles, and aalta (traditional red dye) stalls will add to the festive charm. Women will also receive special gifts, and traditional Chhattisgarhi cuisine will be served.

Padma Shri awardee Usha Barle and renowned folk singer Aru Sahu will give special performances during the event. The program will be attended by Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Shri Arun Sao, along with other state ministers and many distinguished citizens.

It is worth noting that the Department of Women and Child Development is organizing the Teeja-Pora Festival and Women’s Convention on August 24 at Raipur’s Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium for the women of the state as part of Chhattisgarh’s Silver Jubilee celebrations. Teeja holds a special place in Chhattisgarh’s rich folk culture. This festival is not only religious or traditional—it is a celebration that nurtures social and familial bonds. Held in the month of Bhado, Teeja brings love and affection from the maternal home for sisters, daughters, and mothers. It serves as a bridge to strengthen relationships, where daughters and sisters are invited back home and honored. On this special occasion, women observe a strict fast without water (nirjala vrat) and worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati to bring happiness and prosperity into their married lives.

Teeja truly represents the soul of Chhattisgarh, where culture, tradition, and love blend beautifully.
