
Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has said the government decision to hike Minimum Support Price, MSP for Kharif crops was a progressive step in series of reforms that have been rolled out to double farmers income by 2022.
The Minister was speaking to farmers at his residence in New Delhi today who had called on him following the Cabinet’s decision yesterday to hike support prices for Kharif crop to 1.5 times of the production cost.
Mr Singh said, the government is also emphasizing on enhancing productivity, reducing cost of cultivation and strengthening post-harvesting management, including market structure. He said, Government is working on a new market architecture to ensure that farmers get remunerative prices for their produce.
Farmers who reached from different parts of the country welcomed the government’s decision to increase the MSP of Kharif crops and called it historic.
