The country’s industrial output slipped to a 4-month low, as it contracted 1(point)2 per cent in February this year.

Industrial output fell mainly on account of a decline in the manufacturing sector, and lower offtake of capital and consumer goods. The Index of Industrial Production, IIP, had grown 1.99 per cent in February last year.

Data from the Central Statistics Office showed that the manufacturing sector output contracted 2 per cent in February. Capital goods output declined 3.4 per cent, and overall consumer goods production shrank 5.6 per cent during the month.
