
The country’s GDP grew 7(point)1 percent during the full fiscal year 2016-17, year-on-year, in line with the official estimate. Growth was lifted by a strong showing by the agricultural sector, which expanded 4.9 per cent during 2016-17 compared to 0.7 percent in the previous year.
For the fourth quarter of the 2016-17 fiscal, GDP grew 6.1 per cent, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office. During the fourth quarter, the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors grew 5.2 per cent, mining and quarrying grew 6.4 per cent, and manufacturing expanded 5.3 per cent. But the construction sector shrank 3.7 per cent during the quarter. Per capita income is estimated at 1.03 lakh rupees during 2016-17, an increase of 9.7 per cent.
