Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said, advantages of economic development are now reaching villages through new technologies. Mr Jaitley said this in New Delhi after dedicating 100 ICICI Digital villages to the nation.
He said, movement towards digitization created newer technologies and new form of electronic payments which are benefiting people in the rural areas.
The Minister congratulated the ICICI group for accomplishing the task of digitizing 100 villages across seventeen states.
He urged other banks to emulate the example in other villages and empower the rural people.
As per information received, ICICI group has embarked on creating another 500 digital villages across the country in the current year.
The ICICI digital village programme provides for holistic development of a village through digital infrastructure, financial inclusion, skill development and vocational training among others.
