On the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the spirit of unity met the soul of transformation as Chhattisgarh’s tableau “The Land of Bastar – A Saga of Culture, Creation and Progress” took center stage at the grand Ekta Parade in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. The tableau’s evocative design and vibrant performance not only celebrated Bastar’s cultural depth but also its inspiring journey from conflict to confidence.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the parade and expressed admiration for the artistic diversity displayed by states and organizations across the nation. Among them, Chhattisgarh’s tableau stood out — a moving composition that mirrored how Bastar, once a symbol of struggle, is today an emblem of peace, pride, and progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
At the tableau’s forefront, artists from the Madia tribal community, draped in traditional attire, performed the Gaur dance — a rhythmic assertion of unity, pride, and festivity. The resounding call of the turhi (tribal trumpet) symbolized Bastar’s joy-filled festivals, while the poised figure of Nandi reflected the region’s deep spiritual faith in Lord Shiva.
The middle segment unfolded Bastar’s remarkable transformation — a shift from extremism to empowerment. Roads now weave through once-isolated villages; schools echo with laughter instead of fear. Education, healthcare, and employment have rewritten Bastar’s destiny. The echo of guns has been replaced by the rhythm of development — a metamorphosis that embodies India’s larger narrative of renewal.
At the rear, a woman carrying a basket personified the strength and creativity of Bastar’s women, whose hands now shape both tradition and progress. The tableau’s ornate use of Dhokra art, crafted by Bastar’s skilled artisans, lent authenticity and aesthetic brilliance, reminding onlookers that development in Bastar is not at the cost of heritage, but in harmony with it.
More than a visual spectacle, the tableau told a story – of New Bastar taking shape. Electricity and internet connectivity have illuminated remote hamlets; forest-based livelihoods and women-led enterprises are reviving local economies. Bastar’s youth, once caught in uncertainty, now stride toward opportunity with conviction and courage.
In its totality, the tableau stood as a symbol of resurgence and renewal — a tribute to the people of Bastar who are scripting a new chapter in Chhattisgarh’s development saga. Rooted in faith, art, and nature, yet powered by education, infrastructure, and enterprise, this is the new Bastar: confident, connected, and creative.
The tableau’s selection followed a rigorous evaluation process headed by the Union Home Secretary, alongside a panel of experts representing diverse fields. After multiple presentations from states and central organizations, Chhattisgarh’s model was chosen for its originality, cultural integrity, and its lucid portrayal of India’s evolving developmental landscape.
Joining Chhattisgarh in the final lineup were the NSG, NDRF, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Puducherry, and Uttarakhand — each contributing to the grand tapestry of India’s unity in diversity showcased at Ekta Nagar.
As the parade concluded, Chhattisgarh’s tableau left behind more than applause — it left an imprint of faith restored and progress realized. It reminded the nation that Bastar’s story is no longer one of distance and despair, but of dignity and determination — a new dawn rising from the red soil of Chhattisgarh onto the shining land of Gujarat.
