Adopted Villages to Witness Inclusive, Human-Centered Development

Raipur, 29 May
In a new initiative, Governor Shri Ramesh Deka has resolved to adopt three villages in Chhattisgarh. The selected villages are Temri in Bemetara district, Madwa Deeh in Gariaband district, and Sonpuri in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai district. The goal is to promote inclusive socio-economic and environmental development in rural areas by integrating the community into various flagship schemes of the central and state governments.
This initiative will not involve any separate fund allocation; instead, it will focus on the effective utilization and monitoring of resources already available under existing schemes. By adopting these villages, the emphasis will be placed on implementing welfare schemes with a human-centric approach, ensuring inclusive village development.
The development efforts in these villages will focus on key areas such as water conservation, green cover enhancement, education, health and nutrition, livelihood, social security, sustainable agriculture, and preservation of heritage and culture. Water conservation will be promoted through the creation of Amrit Sarovars and convergence of works under MGNREGA and the Jal Jeevan Mission. CAMPA, MGNREGA, and afforestation drives will support green cover. To reduce the school dropout rate in primary and secondary schools, parent-teacher meetings, library enrichment with educational and engaging books, support for NCC, and school renovations will be emphasized.
For health and nutrition, the focus will be on TB elimination, sanitation campaigns, and ICDS programs. Livelihood opportunities will be expanded through NRLM, self-help groups, skill training, and rural entrepreneurship. Social security initiatives will prioritize elderly and disabled care, de-addiction and rehabilitation centers, and mental health awareness. Agricultural development will include organic farming, traditional practices, and soil health cards. Heritage and culture will be promoted through local tourism and community-led preservation of heritage sites.
Regular monitoring will be conducted in these adopted villages. Measurable indicators will be used to assess project outcomes, such as groundwater level improvement, increase in green cover, and reduction in school dropout rates. These villages will act as model villages, serving as guiding examples for district administrations to adopt an inclusive, human-centered approach to socio-economic and environmental development.
It is noteworthy that during the Governor’s Conference held in New Delhi last August, all Governors were directed to engage with district officials on the implementation of flagship schemes. In line with this directive, Governor Shri Deka has been regularly visiting districts across the state to gather on-the-ground feedback. During these visits, he resolved to develop select villages as model villages.
