Chhattisgarh has achieved a historic milestone in the field of education, setting a new benchmark under the skilled leadership and visionary policies of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. Today, there is not a single school from primary to higher secondary level in the state without a teacher. The number of single-teacher schools has been reduced by 80%.

This transformation has been made possible through a process called rationalization, aimed at ensuring equitable use of educational resources, logical teacher placements, and aligning staffing in schools with the Right to Education Act and the National Education Policy.

It’s worth noting that before rationalization, 453 schools in the state were completely teacherless, and 5,936 schools had only one teacher. This issue was particularly severe in remote and sensitive districts such as Sukma, Narayanpur, and Bijapur.

To address this gap, the state government conducted a three-phase counseling process for teacher deployment at the district, divisional, and state levels. As a result, no school in the state is now without a teacher, and all high schools have the minimum required number of teachers appointed.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai praised the effort to improve educational arrangements through rationalization, saying:
“We had resolved that no child in Chhattisgarh should have to study without a teacher. Through rationalization, we are not only fulfilling the Right to Education Act but also laying the foundation for a strong and equitable education system. This is not just about transfers — it is the restoration of justice in education.”

He further clarified that improving the situation of single-teacher schools remains a top priority, and additional teachers will be appointed in the coming months through promotions and new recruitments.

The state government is now focusing on 1,207 primary schools that still have only one teacher. To address this, a strategy has been formulated to prioritize promotion of head teachers, teacher deployment, and new teacher recruitment.

The distribution of remaining single-teacher primary schools across districts is as follows:

Bastar: 283

Bijapur: 250

Sukma: 186

Mohla-Manpur-Chowki: 124

Korba: 89

Balrampur: 94

Narayanpur: 64

Dhamtari: 37

Surajpur: 47

Dantewada: 11

Other districts: Only 22 schools

Teachers will soon be deployed in these schools as per the requirements.

The Chhattisgarh government’s efforts are aimed at making education inclusive and providing equal learning opportunities to every child. This entire process has demonstrated that rationalization is not just an administrative exercise, but a reform rooted in social justice, placing every child, every village, and every school at its core.
