Healthcare Services Reach Remote Village Konde Near Abujhmad in Bastar Division

Raipur, 21 September

When we talk about delivering healthcare services to the remote interiors of Bastar in Chhattisgarh, the image that often comes to mind is of dense forests and the overflowing Indravati River. During the monsoon, reaching these remote villages becomes extremely risky. Yet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and the guidance of Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, every health worker in the state is fulfilling their duty with the utmost commitment, prioritizing saving lives—even in the most difficult conditions.

Expanding healthcare in Naxal-affected districts has remained a top priority for the government. Today, quality healthcare services are reaching the general public in areas like Kanker, Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada. This transformation is a testament to good governance under Chief Minister Sai, which has significantly improved the healthcare landscape in Bastar division.

Health Secretary Shri Amit Kataria and Commissioner-cum-Director Dr. Priyanka Shukla are leading the expansion of health services across the state. As part of these efforts, the statewide campaign “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” has ensured healthcare access in even the most inaccessible parts of Bijapur district.

This past Saturday, a health team rowed across the flooded Indravati River in a boat to set up a medical camp in village Konde, located near Abujhmad. A total of 132 patients were examined at the camp, with the most common illnesses being malaria, cold and cough, and skin diseases. Notably, 10 pregnant women received comprehensive health check-ups, vaccinations, and counseling. Under maternal health services, women were also provided with detailed information on nutrition, anemia prevention, and safe motherhood.

In the past three days alone, the campaign’s progress in Bijapur district has been remarkable:

3,177 cases of high blood pressure were identified.

2,823 women were screened for oral, breast, and cervical cancer, and provided with appropriate medical counseling.

314 pregnant women received health check-ups, vaccinations, and consultations.

Over 1,200 people were screened for tuberculosis, and more than 800 individuals underwent sickle cell testing through camps held in remote regions.

These figures are not just statistics—they are evidence of the government’s commitment to ensuring that maternal and child healthcare services reach even the most remote and difficult-to-access areas of Bijapur district. Health workers are crossing rivers, climbing hills, and traversing forests to deliver life-saving services to women and children.

This initiative reinforces the belief that a “healthy woman is the foundation of a strong family.” The consistent reach of healthcare services under this campaign is its greatest success.

The ongoing healthcare improvements in Bastar division are not only elevating the quality of life for local residents but also proving that good governance and dedicated efforts can bring about real change, even in the most challenging environments.
