The Dhamtari District Administration has stated that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), eligible beneficiary families included in the Awas Plus Survey List 2.0 will be granted housing approvals as per rules and after verification. Families included in the survey list need not worry or be anxious.
This clarification came from the district administration following an incident today at the Dhamtari Collectorate, where Karan Sonwani from village Doma allegedly attempted self-immolation due to delays in approval under the PM Awas Yojana.
It is noteworthy that Karan Sonwani’s name is registered under Survey List ID 93358481 of PMAY (Rural) Awas Plus 2.0. However, a misunderstanding occurred when he tried checking his name via the Checker Software, which led him to believe he was not listed. As a result, he attempted self-immolation, which was promptly prevented by the security personnel at the collectorate.
The district administration clarified that the Checker Software performs random checks, which caused confusion for the individual.
Collector of Dhamtari, Mr. Avinash Mishra, informed that verification of beneficiaries listed under the Awas Plus Survey 2.0 is currently ongoing and will be completed by 31 July 2025. After verification, housing approvals will be granted to eligible families according to the established rules.
The Collector also highlighted the introduction of a “Jandarshan Desk” by the district administration to resolve public issues and complaints, and to ensure the transparent implementation of government programs and beneficiary-centric schemes. Citizens can directly present their concerns to officials on working days (Monday to Friday).
Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat, Mrs. Roma Srivastava, stated that under the scheme, a survey of 84,439 beneficiary families was conducted in Dhamtari district. Of these, verification work is ongoing for 26,923 families. Once the verification process is completed, housing approvals will be issued to eligible families based on priority and as per government norms.
