Agniveer Recruitment Candidate Collapses After Running and Becomes Unconscious, Immediate Treatment Given, But Death Occurred During Treatment

Regarding the ongoing Agniveer recruitment rally at Boirdadar Stadium, based on preliminary information received through the army organizers, on Monday, 9th December 2024, Manoj Kumar Sahu, son of Shri Anil Kumar Sahu, aged 20, from village Khopa, Block/Tehsil Abhanpur, Raipur district (Chhattisgarh), successfully completed the first stage of the 1600-meter run at the Army Recruitment Center Stadium, Raigarh.
Immediately after completing the first stage, before proceeding to the next stage of biometric verification, he suddenly collapsed on the field.
The candidate was immediately examined on-site by the medical team of the District Health Department present at the stadium. After initial examination by the doctors, it was found that the candidate was having severe difficulty breathing. His SPO2 oxygen saturation level was continuously decreasing, and he was found to be conscious but disoriented.
He was immediately provided with medical oxygen and given first aid before being referred to the district hospital, Raigarh by ambulance. There, he was brought in unconscious, intubated, and stabilized before being transferred to the Higher Medical College, Raigarh. Despite proper treatment from the specialist team at Raigarh Medical College, his condition worsened, and he passed away at 11:35 PM on 9th December 2024. According to the family and doctors’ findings, it was confirmed that the candidate, Manoj Kumar Sahu, was previously suffering from sickle cell anemia.
On the morning of 10th December 2024, a postmortem was conducted by the specialist doctors of the medical college in the presence of the family.
After the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family and sent to the candidate’s hometown Khopa, Tehsil Abhanpur, Raipur district, accompanied by the Tehsildar and the CEO of the Panchayat. The district administration provided financial assistance for the last rites. Additionally, the Chief Minister will provide a financial assistance of 10 lakh rupees from the discretionary fund.
