100% Check-Ups for All Pregnant Women in PM-JANMAN Area of Lormi
Raipur, 29 September
The “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” campaign, run by the Chhattisgarh government, has created a new milestone by delivering quality healthcare services to remote forest regions. In the PM-JANMAN (Prime Minister Tribal Justice Mega Campaign) area of Lormi block in Mungeli district, antenatal care (ANC) check-ups for all 87 registered pregnant women have been successfully completed.
Under this campaign, 15 high-risk pregnancies were identified, and these women were provided specialized investigations including ultrasound scans by expert doctors at the Lormi Mother and Child Hospital.
Safe Motherhood Support for PVTG Communities
Where once Baiga tribal women, classified under Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), were deprived of proper health facilities during childbirth, today, ANC check-ups, nutritional counselling, and institutional delivery preparations have brought new hope for safe motherhood in their lives.
The state’s 102 Mahatari Express and Mobile Medical Units have made healthcare services accessible even in remote hills and dense forests. The continuous efforts of Mitanins (community health workers) and ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives) have played a crucial role in connecting these women with healthcare services.
During the campaign, not only were medical services provided, but awareness was also spread among women and adolescent girls. They were counseled on:
Menstrual hygiene
Weekly iron and folic acid supplementation
Balanced diet
Additionally, screenings for sickle cell disease, tuberculosis, blood pressure, diabetes, cervical and breast cancer were also conducted.
Statewide PMSMA Campaign and Impact
It is noteworthy that under the “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” initiative, the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) was specially conducted from 24th to 26th September across Chhattisgarh. During this period, over 51,000 pregnant women were examined through 843 government health facilities. Among these, more than 10,000 high-risk pregnancies were identified and provided with timely specialist consultations and care. Also, ultrasounds were conducted for 8,619 women, enhancing accuracy and trust in maternal health services.
This achievement reflects the state government’s priority to reduce maternal mortality and ensure safe motherhood for every pregnant woman.
“Chhattisgarh’s Mothers Are Everyone’s Responsibility” – this theme is not just a slogan but a movement blending healthcare and social awareness, aiming to empower women and families through improved health security.
Quotes from Leadership
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said:
“A healthy woman is the foundation of a strong family and a strong society. Our goal is to ensure that every pregnant woman in the state, whether from remote forest regions or PVTG communities, receives safe maternity care. The successful completion of 100% ANC check-ups in Lormi’s PM-JANMAN area is a historic achievement. This campaign is not only expanding healthcare access but also taking decisive steps towards reducing maternal and infant mortality.”
Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal added:
“The state government has given top priority to maternal and child health. Achieving 100% antenatal check-ups in remote areas like Lormi proves that our health services are now reaching the last mile. Providing safe motherhood services to women from PVTG communities like the Baiga tribe reflects the government’s deep commitment. In the coming time, we will further strengthen and expand this model across the entire state.”
