In Andhra Pradesh, at least 13 people were killed and few more are missing when a boat capsized in Krishna river at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada yesterday evening. All 13 bodies that were taken out have been identified.
The boat was carrying over 35 passengers. Eyewitnesses said, 32 of the total passengers belonged to the Ongole Walkers Club who came on a pleasure trip. The boat left Punnami Ghat near Bhavanipuram at around 5:30 PM to Pavitra Sangamam of Krishna and Godavari rivers to watch Harathi at Ferry village.
Vijayawada police commissioner Gowtham Sawang said, local people and NDRF have rescued 17 persons. Andhra Pradesh government has announced an exgratia of 5 lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister N China Rajappa, leader of opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy and others expressed shock and grief over the incident. The deputy chief minister N China Rajappa rushed to the accident spot to oversee the rescue operations.
