US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has said he expects President Donald Trump to impose new sanctions on Iran.

The news comes as President Trump faces a Friday deadline to decide whether to waive other major sanctions on Iran lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal.

Meanwhile, European and Iranian top diplomats have urged US President Donald Trump to uphold the nuclear deal with Tehran.

The EU’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini as well as the foreign ministers of Germany, Britain, France, and Iran met at EU headquarters in Brussels yesterday.

They discussed the deal reached by six world powers and Iran in 2015 to sharply curb Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting economic sanctions.

The countries have been implementing the accord since January 2016.
